AK2006 -- Arctic Circle

At Milepost 115, the Dalton Highway becomes the only highway in the United States, and one of only two in North America, to cross the Arctic Circle. I actually missed this turnoff on the way north. I saw a sign that said 'Arctic Circle', but i guess i was thinking it was just the name of a campsite. it didnt feel like was 'north' enough to be in the arctic yet. Whatever the case, these pics were taken on my way back south. Most of the rocks i brought back on this trip came from round this pulloff. . .

The obligitory “Here's Where You're At” sign at the Arctic Circle Wayside (milepost 115 on the Dalton Highway). . .

. . .the beginnings of a sunset over the Arctic Circle. . .

. . .the wayside also had signs showing how the area transitions from one season to another. (i had nothing to do witht he Marcin decoration behind -- some other artist did that). . .

. . .i needed some height for the sunset pictures, so i had to get creative with the tripod and car. thank you rental car company. . .

. . .one of my friends who was watching my dogs back in Denton, made me promise to get pictures of this dog in Alaska for a contest she was trying to win. . .

. . .Bad Dog!!! . . . apparently he marked his territory (or i spilled my apple juice). . .

. . .here comes the sunset at the Arctic Circle. . .

. . .just the sunset through the clouds.
