KEY2009 -- Hemingway Cats

As the story goes, Ernest Hemingway was given a six-toed cat back in the day by a ship's captain and many of the cats who live at the Hemingway House Museum grounds are descendants. The tour guide pointed out Key West is a small island and cats do what cats do. But not all of them actually have the 6 toes, just the ones that have the dominant gene. Whatever the version, they are all protected by the museum and have their run of the grounds.

There did seemed to be a West Side Story thing going on between the ‘regular’ and the ‘6’ toes. . . saw some of them stalking each other on the grounds.

The museum is surrounded by an overhanging fence designed to keep the cats in. But we also saw more than a few lost dog signs all over the neighborhood. . . coincidence? I think not. Might also explain why the chickens go into hiding at night. . .

Not sure why this one is locked up. . . perhaps it robbed a bank (or attacked a chicken?). . .

. . .a 'regular' 5 toed calico cat lounging about. . .

. . .yet another 'regular' cat sleeping the afternoon away. . .

. . .somebody didnt read the 'wet cement' sign. . .

. . .one of the 'six' toed cats on the prowl. . .

. . .another 'six' toed cat stalking another one of the regular ones. . .

. . .after he had cornered the 'regular' one underneith something. . .

. . .flashing me a look after we were interrupting the chase. . .

. . .he finally allowed a closeup pose of the six toes to get rid of us.
